SEASON RECAP

End of season statistics:

Keys to success for the future:

Season  Highlights:

8/13 (Mon)  Pre-Season Starts        8:00AM and 6:00PM Cupertino HS
We started with a larger count than last year, but too many did not run much diring the summer.  Cross Country training starts on the first day of summer.

9/6 (Thu)  Lynbrook Scrimmage
The Varsity Boys ran well, but did not win.  Hopefully, now they will get serious about the pursuit of a state meet appointment.  The Varsity Girls ran like a JV team except for Sumika and Kristin.  They must improve a lot before leagues.  The rest of the boys ran OK.  There were no surprises, good or bad.

9/13 (Thu)  Firebird Invitational Scrimmage
We continue to make progress, though slow.  The Frosh/Soph  team finished second, while the Varsity come through in third.  I was generally unimppressed by the overall performance.

9/15 (Sat) Chieftain Classic
The JV Boys ran to a second place finish which impressive
especially as none of them had run the course before, or a three mile cross country race,  were running against upper classmen, and all except one were freshman or sophomores.  The Varsity Girls ran out of the money except for Sumika's third place finish.  The Varsity Boys placed third with having meet P.R.s and all but one setting course P.R.s.  We still have to close the gap between first and seventh runners.

9/18 (Tue)  Saratoga Scrimmage
I pulled Sumika and two of  the varsity boys from this meet for an intensive week of training.  The VB finished second, but could have won easily if we had run at full strength.

9/25 (Tue)  Central Park Invitational
Sumika finished second in a disappointing time.  The Varsity Boys took first place.  The JV Boys placed third.
9/29 (Sat)  Stanford Invitational
This is the big test for the Varsity Boys and Sumika.  Peter does finish because of a ruptured tendon in his foot and Ryo hurts his ankle on Thurdsay and is out for at least a week.  The boys still finish 11th out of 38.  Sumika finishes 20th compared to 5th last year.

10/6 (Sat)  Artichoke Invitational
SATs take Sumika and Cecilia out.  This meet begins our 8 days of hell with 4 meets. Both varsity teams finish second in their heats.

10/9 (Tue)  SCVAL Preview
Our traditional first look at Crystal Springs for the season.  There were four PR's not counting the first timers. Coaches timed their own and was run by grade, so it was a true hard workout format.
Sumika tied the girls senior CHS record, but that has to be unofficial because of the timing.

10/11 (Thu)  Crystal Springs #1
We did pack running in many forms. Everyone had at least one time goal starting with the first mile.  The varsity boys top four were the best at hitting their marks with three of them finishing together, and running the CCS at-large qualifying time in the process.   We had 13 new Crystal PRs.

10/13 (Sat)  Serra Invitational
Tired legs from meets and bodies from too much homecoming activities. There were a hand full of PRs.
Sumika surpassed the girls senior CHS record by a second.

10/18 (Tue)  Crystal Springs #2
I opted for racing instead of pack running.  Abiy goes under 16:00 for the first time.  More PRs were had and a major breakdown.

10/20 (Sat)  Monterey Bay Invitational
The team is depleted  because of PSAT.  Almost everyone improved from the Chieftain Classic and a number of course PRs were run.

10/25 (Thu)  Lynbrook Invitational
Almost everyone ran a PR.  The varsity boys won the team title (and the perpetual plaque).

10/30 (Tue)  DAL Finals
Very disaapointing. As a whole the team ran poorly with a couple of bright spots.  The Varsity Boys qualified for CCS, the girls did not as expected.  Only five PRs, only one came within 5 seconds of their season best, and 2 others came within 15 seconds..

11/10 (Sat)  CCS at Crystal
Disappointed with the boys team time.  Pleased or satisfied with Abiy, Peter, Max, and Sumika performance.
Sumika and Abiy qualify for the state meet.

11/24 (Sat)  State Meet
Both Abiy and Sumika placed 34th.  Both should have done better.  I am more disappointed with Sumika's performance because she has done much better.
